rTMS

Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS) is a non-invasive, evidence-based treatment for treatment-resistant depression by our psychiatrist and experienced technicians.

rTMS uses targeted magnetic pulses to stimulate the brain. Treatment is delivered while you remain awake and comfortable in a chair, with no anaesthesia or sedation required.

rTMS is most commonly recommended for adults with major depressive disorder who have not experienced adequate improvement with antidepressant medication or psychological therapy. Medicare rebates are available for eligible patients undergoing an initial acute course of treatment under current MBS criteria for treatment-resistant depression.

A GP or specialist referral is required. An initial consultation will assess whether rTMS is an appropriate treatment option for you. If suitable, a subsequent mapping session is conducted to plan your treatment course and determine the recommended number of sessions.
